Sandy Springs Crash: Video Footage Released In Wreck That Injured Officer

WATCH: Sandy Springs Police released dashcam footage relating to a crash that injured an officer who was investigating another wreck.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Police on Thursday released video footage in relation to a crash that seriously injured a Sandy Springs officer this week.

Sandy Springs Police used the dash camera footage, which appears to show a motorcycle slamming into a vehicle, to warn of the dangers connected to speeding.

The officer was investigating another crash on State Route 400 when he was hit by a motorcycle, police said earlier in the week.

Police said they are grateful the officer is alive. The officer was recovering though his "injuries were significant," police said.

"Our thoughts are with him and his family as he continues to heal," police said in a statement.

Police on Wednesday said they arrested David Anthony Hightower in connection with the crash and charged him with racing, reckless driving and serious injury by motor vehicle.

Additionally, police arrested Riad Ahmed, who was accused of driving under the influence and traveling at 100 mph, WSB-TV reported.

Police said drivers should not drive impaired, obey the speed limit, stay alert and move over for emergency vehicles and personnel.

"These aren’t just traffic laws, they are life-saving responsibilities," police said in the statement.
