  1. Sandy Springs has introduced a new code of ordinances requiring apartment complexes to hire a third-party inspector to assess units annually. Previously, only 20 percent of apartment units underwent annual inspections. This new policy aims to address issues like water damage, structural problems, mold, and fire hazards, particularly in older complexes without sprinkler systems. There are 98 apartment complexes in Sandy Springs, and the existing properties collectively have 25,000 units, with only 28 percent having sprinkler systems. The updated regulations are expected to enhance safety conditions in rental communities. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  2. Fulton County Public Works and University of Georgia Extension Fulton County are hosting a Fall Gardening Event on Sep. 30 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. This event will provide participants with insights into easy composting methods, tips for maintaining a healthy garden in the fall and winter, and a tour of the Water Wise Rain Gardens at the maintenance facility. Interested individuals can register for the event here. (Fulton County Government via Facebook)
  3. Fulton County Schools is utilizing its Teaching Museum and Archives to provide educational resources and experiences that span from the 1800s to the present, focusing on local schools and communities. The museum offers over 80 programs and resources to support student learning beyond the classroom, including field trips, performances, educational programs, and hands-on activities. The museum's mission is to enhance student learning and foster personal connections with classroom material, with programs aligned to Georgia Standards of Excellence for pre-K through eighth grades.
