Sandy Springs Woman Charged In Fatal Crash

The 34-year-old woman is accused of striking two pedestrians who were standing beside a disabled vehicle in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — A Sandy Springs woman has been charged in connection to a fatal crash reported over the weekend in South Carolina.

South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the accident just after 8 p.m. Jan. 13 on U.S. 17 near North Myrtle Beach.

Corporal Sonny Collins said two pedestrians were standing near a disabled vehicle when a car driven by Alaina Young, 34, of Sandy Springs, hit both people and the other vehicle.

One pedestrian, identified as Ashlin Monteforte, died following the crash and the other was hospitalized, according to WBTW News 13. Young was charged with felony driving under the influence and booked into the Horry County Detention Center at 3:19 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14.

Those jail records show Young was released on the same day with a $10,000 bond.
