I-85 Crash Kills Driver In DeKalb Pileup

The Interstate 85 wreck started as a single-car crash and turned into a deadly accident that killed a driver and injured at least one other.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — A crash on Interstate 85 north early Monday killed a driver and injured at least one other person, DeKalb County Police said.

The fatal crash happened around 3:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Chamblee Tucker Road, police said.

It began as a single-car crash during which the car was damaged in the right lane. Police said the driver exited the car but stayed in the roadway.

A second driver stopped in the roadway to render aid, and both drivers were hit by a third car that also hit the damaged car, police said. Then, a fourth car also crashed at the scene, police said.

The first driver died of their injuries at the scene, police said. The Good Samaritan who stopped was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said.

Police did not release further details on other potential injuries, and police did not identify the person who died.
