Matt Taylor Announces Candidacy for 12th Subcircuit Cook County Judge

A practicing attorney for two decades and college professor, Taylor previously served as a law enforcement officer for 23 years.

Matt Taylor has announced his candidacy for Cook County Circuit Court Judge in the 12th Subcircuit due to his deep passion, dedication, and respect for upholding the law. This great appreciation developed over the more than three decades Taylor has served the public. His extensive career includes 23 years as a police officer, 20 years as a practicing attorney, and 18 years as a college-level professor teaching constitutional and criminal law.

As a Cook County Judge, Taylor vows to utilize his depth and breadth of experiences in enforcing, practicing, and teaching the law, and would take on this new role without bias or prejudices – always guiding his rulings by following Illinois Law.

“As the son of a police chief, it was ingrained in me early on to understand and respect the extreme importance and value of public service through enforcement of the law,” Taylor said. “This family legacy inspired me to build my career around service to others. I strongly believe my combined experiences will make me a highly effective and competent judge who provides fair and just rulings in the Cook County Courts.”

Taylor served as a law enforcement officer for the Village of Palatine for 23 years. While a police officer, his passion for the law evolved, and he took night classes to become an attorney. He balanced the two professional roles until retiring from law enforcement in 2017 and now represents clients in transactional, civil, and criminal law cases in the Cook County courts. He also is a municipal prosecutor for the Village of Palatine.

Taylor is also a college-level constitutional and criminal law professor, and instructor at the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy – where he ensures police officers just starting out have a comprehensive understanding of the law, so they can enforce it skillfully and thoughtfully for the communities they serve. He additionally serves as a municipal prosecutor for the villages of Norridge, Palatine and Schaumburg.

As a Cook County Judge in the 12th Subcircuit, Taylor promises to apply his multifaceted understanding to the law as a judge – and to always rule on the side of the law. He has been evaluated as “recommended” or “qualified” by the following bar associations: Asian American Bar Association, Chicago Council of Lawyers, Decalogue Society of Lawyers, Hellenic Bar Association, Hispanic Lawyers of Illinois, Illinois State Bar Association, Puerto Rican Bar Association, The Black Men Lawyers’ Association and the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois.

Taylor will be hosting a Coffee Meet and Greet at Two Libra’s Café in downtown Palatine 10 N. Bothwell Street on Sunday, August 25 from 9 – 10:30 a.m. All area residents are invited to stop by and share any questions they may have about the court system and can learn more about Matt and why he is running for Cook County Judge in the 12th Subcircuit.

Taylor has been married to his wife Bobbi for 25 years and is the proud father of two adult children. He has been a resident of Palatine/Hoffman Estates for the last 24 years and grew up in Hoffman Estates.
