Teen Who Fired Gun Near Palatine High School Gets 6 Years
The prison sentence was part of a plea deal stemming from a shooting earlier this year.

PALATINE, IL — A Palatine teenager with alleged gang ties who opened fire near a high school earlier this year was sentenced to six years in prison Wednesday stemming from the incident. Luis Corona, 18, of the 1300 block of Winslowe Drive, received the jail term and was fined $674 as part of a deal with prosecutors for pleading guilty to the aggravated discharge of a a firearm, the Daily Herald reports.
According to police, the incident happened at around 3:30 p.m. Jan. 23 in the 1300 block of North Rohlwing Road, less than a mile west of Palatine HIgh School. A witness who heard the shots went toward them and saw five people who were later ID'ed as targets of the gunfire, the Herald reports.
Corona told police he started shooting when he glimpsed one of the five people reach under his jacket, the report added. No one was hurt in the shooting.

Along with the gun count he pleaded guilty to, Corona also was originally charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. That charge was later dropped as part of Corona's plea deal.
