National Retailer Closing 20 Locations, Laying Off 900 Workers: What It Means For IL

There are 10 stores in Illinois that could be affected by the closures.

The maker of Yankee Candle, which has 10 stores in Illinois, said Monday it plans to close 20 stores and lay off more than 900 workers, or 10 percent of its workforce, in a cost-cutting move.

Yankee Candle locations in Illinois include storefronts in Tinley Park, Schaumburg, Palatine, Joliet and Geneva.

Newell Brands said the cuts will affect approximately 10 percent of its professional and clerical employees and will have a limited impact on manufacturing or supply chain operations. Layoffs in the U.S. are set for this month, with international cuts continuing through 2026,
