APG's Large, Loud Detonations To Continue

The loud booms that Perry Hall residents have heard this week may continue next week, according to Aberdeen Proving Ground's U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command.

Louder-than-normal detonations could be heard around the area during the week of Dec. 3-7. They will continue beginning Friday, and running until about Dec. 14.

According to a statement from the Army Test and Evaluation Command, "These detonations are likely to generate sound and/or vibration outside the installation boundary. If weather conditions are not favorable in minimizing noise off the installation, firing will be rescheduled."

Noise caused by similar testing caused concern among community members on Nov. 19. Several residents reported on Patch and on Facebook that the sounds had upset pets and shaken homes in the Perry Hall area.

The Patch article on the booms was featured by the Strange Sounds blog that focuses on "weird sounds, earth groaning, sounds of apocalypse around the world."
