Malden Plans City Hall Plaza Menorah Lighting

Festivities will kick off before the lighting with various activities inside Malden City Hall.

MALDEN, MA — Malden will help celebrate Hanukkah in the coming weeks with a planned menorah lighting on City Hall Plaza, officials announced this week.

The lighting is set for Dec. 18 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., coinciding with the first night of Hanukkah this year. The city is running the event in conjunction with the Chabad of the North Shore.

Programming will kick off on Dec. 18 inside the City Hall lobby with a series of crafts, holiday goods, dreidel games, goodie bags and more, according to a city announcement on Wednesday.

Upcoming Hanukkah plans come a matter of weeks after Malden officials took steps to condemn recent acts of antisemitism both locally and at the national level.

The City Council approved a resolution on the topic in mid-November.

Mayor Gary Christenson issued a similar statement weeks earlier, vowing, in part, to increase safety measures around the city’s annual Hanukkah celebration with help from Malden Police.
