- : Commuter rail locomotives sounded horns in West Medford and Hillside for nearly a week after the city failed to get in compliance with a 2005 federal law regarding safety standards at train crossings. Mayor Michael McGlynn eventually struck a deal with the commuter rail and Federal Railroad administration to have trains slow to 15 miles per hour at the interestions - slow enough to not need a horn blast - until the city installs traffic medians.
- : The arrest of alleged South Boston crime boss James "Whitey" Bulger had all New England buzzing. Bulger has connections to two of the most infamous events in Medford's history - the Bank Depositors Trust heist in 1980, and the recording of a mafia induction ceremony.

- Thomas Kelley, 55, of Medford, received unemployment benefits from the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development’s Division of Unemployment Assistance of and on between 2006 and 2009, but during those time periods he worked for seven different employers, according to a press release from the office of Attorney General Martha Coakley. He pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay about $19,000 in restitution.
- : The eighties pop icon, best known for his hit song "Jessie's Girl," will take the stage at Chevalier on Sept. 10, officials announced in June.
- : The break near 422 High St. shut traffic about 2 p.m. on June 6 for about 16 hours. It left about 40 homes and 10 businesses temporarily without water service.
- : Detailed designs haven't been made yet, but planners said they intend to create a large, plaza area with pedestrian access for nearing neighborhoods at the College Avenue green line station in Medford.
