5 Newton Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

Newton has a diverse group of charities that could use additional support.

NEWTON, MA — If you’re like many of your Newton neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Newton area.
Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  1. Cradles To Crayons: The Newton branch of the national nonprofit, located on 281 Newtonville Ave., works to combat clothing insecurity among children. According to the organization, approximately 20 million children are not adequately clothed.
  2. Newton Food Pantry: The pantry on 1000 Commonwealth Ave. is the oldest and largest in the city’s history, helping feed struggling community members for more than 40 years.
  3. Newton Community Pride: The group aims to improve the culture of Newton through free arts and culture programming and service projects. Annually, NCP awards financial grants to artistic individuals and organizations.
  4. Newton at Home: Founded in 2011, Newton at Home is part of the larger “Village Movement,” which has more than 300 municipalities participating throughout the nation. Members are provided with needed domestic and transportation services with the help of volunteers.
  5. Newton Schools Foundation: The NSF invests in dynamic innovations to the district’s curriculum. Since its inception in 1985, it has provided $4 million to Newton Public School staff.
