New Newton Schools To Be Celebrated Throughout September
Three events for three different schools are taking place throughout the month.
NEWTON, MA — The city has three events planned this month to recognize three new elementary schools that are all in different phases of construction.
A “topping-off” event at the Countryside Elementary School took place on Thursday morning in which the final steel beam was placed on top of the building, completing the skeletal structure of the school. Mayor Ruthanne Fuller expects the school on Dedham Street to be completed by January 2027.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Franklin Elementary School on Derby Street will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 9 a.m., led by Superintendent of Schools Anna Nolin. The new building is slated to open its doors for the stat of the 2027 school year. The old building will be replaced with sports fields, similar to Countryside.

Finally, a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held for the Lincoln-Eliot Elementary School on Jackson Road on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 9 a.m. The school opened its doors this week and welcomed students for the first time.
