NEWTON, MA — On Dec. 10, several of Newton’s women-owned businesses, with missions to do good as part of their business models, are opening their doors and inviting the community inside to shop and support their work. From offering sustainable products, to donating a portion of revenues to local charities, to offering zero waste shopping, holiday shopping at each of these businesses is designed to help others and the earth.

Newton’s ThreadED: Fashion for a Future is the catalyst behind the Goods That Do Good Holiday shopping event. ThreadEd sells quality, donated clothing and accessories, using profits to help under-resourced students attend college. Its racks are stocked with winter sweaters, coats, dresses, scarves and more — with each sale directly supporting Boston-area youth.

“Our winter sale is our largest event,” said ThreadED co-owner Laurel Sgan. “It’s a great opportunity to bump up your wardrobe and purchase holiday gifts, knowing that every dollar spent does good for someone in need.”

Joining ThreadED for the Goods That Do Good shopping event are Newton shops: Fulfilled Goods, Greentail Table, Newtonville Books, Forevermark Flowers, &Soaps, Judith’s Kitchen, and Derby Farm Flowers. Holiday shoppers visit each store’s location to explore their offerings and shop. Participating businesses, their products that do good, and shopping hours are posted on the All Over Newton website.

Welcome Home, a Newton-based nonprofit that distributes like-new donated household items to local families experiencing hardship, is also taking part in the Goods That Do Good event. From 10:30 a.m. to noon on Dec. 10 this home goods pantry in West Newton will accept drop-offs of new or like-new blankets to keep those in need warm this winter, and give tours of their new facility.

“We’re thrilled to be included in this group of local, women-owned businesses who support the
community in ways large and small,” said Julie Plaut Mahoney, Director of Welcome Home. “It’s caring and thoughtful business owners like these who make Newton such a special place.”

Goods That Do Good is a self-guided holiday shopping event on Saturday, December 10th. Some of the participating shops will also have hours on December 8—11th. Please refer to www.allovernewton.com/goods-th... for details on store hours, offerings, and a map of participating shops.
