Newton High School Put In Lockdown After False Report: Report

Police say the school was "swatted."

NEWTON, MA — A high school lockdown procedure was found to be brought upon by “swatting,” according to a report from Boston 25 News.

Police responded to Newton South High School at 140 Brandeis Road on the morning of Friday, Nov. 21 after receiving a report of a possible hostile threat. Within 20 minutes, the lockdown was lifted after police conducted a full sweep of the property. According to the police department, the report was determined to be false.

Swatting is described as making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.
