Newton Students Need Shots Before Returning To School: Report

The School Committee and Superintendent recently approved the new requirement.

NEWTON, MA — The public school district intends to prohibit students who are not properly vaccinated from returning to school this fall, according to a report from The Boston Globe.

Superintendent of Schools Anna Nolin reportedly told the school committee that a recent chicken pox outbreak influenced her decision. The committee approved Nolin’s mandate during its most recent meeting.

Approximately 180 students are unvaccinated, which accounts for slightly more than 1% of the district. Newton Health and Human Services and school nurses will reportedly provide vaccines for students who aren’t in compliance with state requirements.
