Newton Man Gets Named to The Skating Club of Boston's Marathon Team

The team will support the Club's Always Champions fund that honors the victims of the January plane crash

The Skating Club of Boston, New England’s premier figure skating club and training center, has chosen the second runner for their Boston Marathon team. The Club was awarded two invitation entries as part of the Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program.

The funds raised will benefit the Club’s Always Champions campaign that honors the six victims and Club members that perished in a tragic plane crash on January 29th in Washington, DC.

The second runner is Jing Tu of Newton, MA. Jing’s daughter, Iris, skates at The Skating Club of Boston and he is an avid marathon runner. Jing works at Fidelity Investments and lives with his wife, Ting, and their two children, Iris and Felix.

“This cause is deeply personal to me—not only because I’m a marathon runner, but also because Iris was part of the Tomorrow’s Champions program that was coached by Vadim Naumov and Evegenia Shishkova. Jinna Han and Spencer Lane were also incredible role models for her and this race will not just be about time or pace for me but about legacy, remembrance and carrying forward the spirit of excellence of these Club members.”

Jing was chosen from dozens of applicants to join Scituate native and current Boston College sophomore Jasmine Lanata as part of The Skating Club of Boston Marathon team. Jasmine is a long time Club member and skates with the Theatre on Ice team. She worked closely with Club Director Mia Bailey on securing the invitational entries with the goal to raise money to support the Always Champions campaign

“When Jasmine first shared her idea and how it could support Always Champions, it truly moved me,” said Mia Corsini Bailey, Club Director of The Skating Club of Boston. “She’s been part of our Club family for years and has always dreamed of running the Marathon. Choosing Jing to join the team seemed like a natural choice with his running background and his daughter’s connection to the Club members we lost in January.”
