Newton Man Sentenced To Federal Prison On Firearm Charges
James Welch was first arrested on Feb. 28.
NEWTON, MA — A resident has been sentenced to more than two years in federal prison on illegal firearm charges, the Massachusetts District of the United States Attorney’s Office announced.
James Welch, 30, was sentenced to 30 months in prison by District Court Chief Judge Denise J. Casper. Earlier this year, Welch pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition after a February search of his property in which multiple weapons were recovered, including a pistol and a rifle. He was not legally allowed to possess those firearms due to a past criminal record.
Welch’s prison sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release.
