Newton Plans Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration
Programming will kick off at 9:30 a.m. at Newton North High School.
NEWTON, MA — Community members in Newton will gather next week for the city’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Celebration.
The event is set for Monday, Jan. 16 at 9:30 a.m. at Newton North High School. Though the event is scheduled to run in-person, organizers said it can transition to a webinar format in the event of a COVID-19 emergency or severe winter weather.
City officials recently announced details on Martin Luther King Jr. Day plans, which will come as the 55th year of annual celebrations in town.

A coinciding food drive is already ongoing with drop-off locations at Village Bank Locations, the Scandinavian Living Center, Newton City Hall, Newton Police Headquarters and the Newton Free Library.
Plans in Newton are some of several set to run throughout the region over the weekend around Martin Luther King Jr. Day this year. Among major events, members of Martin Luther King Jr.’s family are scheduled to be in Boston on Friday to take part in the unveiling of the “Embrace” memorial commemorating King and his wife, Coretta Scott King
