Newton Police Receive Grant For Traffic Safety
The department plans to use the funds for a variety of initiatives.

NEWTON, MA — The Police Department was awarded a grant of $60,000 in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funds as part of the 2026 Municipal Road Safety Program.
The MRS Program allocates funds to communities throughout the state to be used to improve traffic safety. The program is operated by the Office of Grants and Research.
As part of MRS, the department will lead 6 upcoming traffic enforcement campaigns as well as four bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement campaigns.

The department began with the first bicycle and pedestrian campaign on Nov. 6 that will continue through Sunday, Nov. 30. Those campaigns involve focusing on areas that experience high volumes of pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
