Grammy-winning Artist Performing At The Armory

Leyla McCalla has garnered many accolades in her musical career.

SOMERVILLE, MA — The Arts at the Armory is welcoming a special performer Friday night as part of its extended Juneteenth Celebration.

McCalla is a New York native and the daughter of Haitian emigrants. In addition to her vocal skills, the armory detailed McCalla’s mastery of instruments such as the guitar, tenor banjo, and cello. Her resume includes being a former member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, which won grammy awards in 2011 and 2013. She was also a member of Our Native Daughters, which she cofounded.
McCalla is going solo for her June 20 concert and will be performing her new album, Sun Without the Heat, which focuses on Afro-diasporic musical traditions.

The doors are slated to open at 7 p.m. with the concert beginning an hour later. Tickets are available online and at the door.
