Somerville Museum Planning American Revolution Anniversary Exhibit
The exhibit is scheduled to begin on Patriots Day.
SOMERVILLE, MA — The Somerville Museum has announced a new temporary exhibit in honor of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
History on the Line offers site-based opportunities that explain the birth of the nation on a more local level. The exhibit’s map details specific places, people, and events that played a role in the war, with trolley tours and site events will give participants a chance to learn more authentically.
The exhibit is slated to open on Monday, April 21 and run through the end of June. It will celebrate its launch with a community event at Foss Park on Fellsway West.
“The Revolution was not a single, unified movement; it was a series of overlapping struggles, full of ambiguity,” Tufts University History Lecturer Dr. Paul Polgar said. “Some fought for self-government, others for personal freedom. Some saw economic opportunity, others faced ruin. Looking at history from this local perspective challenges us to move beyond mythologized versions of the past and reckon with the Revolution in all its complexity.”
