Somerville Police Warn Against Financial Aid Identity Theft Scam

Personal information is being used to apply for FAFSA from schools.

SOMERVILLE, MA — The police department is warning residents after receiving multiple reports of identity theft incidents recently.

According to the department, multiple residents have reported having their names and other personal information used to apply for Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

“In these cases, victims had never applied for FAFSA and had no connection to the schools listed in the fraudulent applications,” the department said in a statement.
