While conducting the surveillance, detectives witnessed Velazquez enter the apartment building. Grady said additional officers were called to the scene because of his history of running.

"Detectives surrounded the building and we attempted to make entry into the apartment (2204) after coming in contact with a resident who had a key," he said. "The key did not open the door."

Velazquez attempted to flee via a back porch, leaving behind a child believed to be 2 years old.

"He climbed over the deck, then saw two officers below," Grady said. "At that point we had to forcibly take the door down to make the arrest for everyone's safety before things could develop in another direction."

Velazquez surrendered without further incident.

The other warrants were from Hudson, Marlborough and Framingham. The one in Framingham was for charges of possession of a class B substance from July 15, 2012.

He was transported to Framingham District Court at 2:33 p.m. for his arraignment.
