Celebration for Watertown's First Responders Will be Coming - Eventually

Town Council Presidents Mark Sideris said plans are underway to give recognition to the police officers and firefighters involved in the shootout and hunt for the Boston Marathon Bombing suspects.

Residents of Watertown will get their chance to thank the town's first responders who faced the Boston Marthon Bombing suspects on April 19, but town officials are still planning the event.

Town Council President Mark Sideris said that some sort of ceremony will be held when the time is right.

"We have been asked if we as a community will have some kind of official ceremony to honor all of these people at some point," Sideris said. "We as a town will have an appropriate ceremony at an appropriate time."

Seven Watertown Police officers took part in the shootout with the bombing suspects near the intersection of Dexter Avenue and Laurel Street. They have not yet returned to work, according to Watertown Police.

Also, two Watertown Firefighters went to the scene and treated the injured Transit Police officer. They have returned to work.

Sideris added that the first responders have received many requests to make appearances.

"Let me say that it is difficult to have public employees and public officials attend all these events, so please to not be offended if we cannot attend," Sideris said.
