Choir Serenades Watertown Firefighters, Police Officers

Students stopped by Watertown to give thanks by singing for Watertown's first responders.

The downtown Watertown Fire Station and Police Station were stops on a very exclusive concert tour this week when a group of youngsters traveled from Worcester to thank the first responders for stopping and capturing the Boston Marathon Bombers.

The choir from the Seven Hills Charter Public School stopped by a variety of places in Boston and Watertown, said music teacher Kathy Holton. The group included 23 students ranging from first graders to one in eighth grade.

"We’re a choir here in Worcester, Mass., and what I really try to instill in the kids is anytime there is any sort of tragedy or disaster, it is important for the children to give back to their community, and thank those who work hard for them," Holton said.

The children hopped on a bus donated by Fox Bus Lines of Millbury, and went to the Boston FBI office, the Boston Police District Station in the Back Bay and a Boston Ladder 33 Fire House, along with the Watertown Police and Fire Stations.

They sang for all of them, except the Boston Fire House. "Unfortunately, they were out on a call," Holton said.

The students also recorded a few songs to make a CD, which will be sold and proceeds will go to the Boston One Fund, Holton said.

Holton said she hoped the students' voices brought some joy to the firefighters and police officers. The Watertown Firefighters seemed to really appreciate the concert.

"A lot of the firefighters had tears in their eyes," Holton said. "One said he had been in the business for 25 years and no one has done anything like that."

The tour stop touched both the students and firefighters in Watertown, Holton said.

"The kids just loved it, and I think they firemen enjoyed it as well."
