UPDATED: Pair of Watertown Police Officers Honored in Georgia

Officers Miguel Colon and Richard Munger took a short trip to LaGrange and received a warm welcome.

Two of Watertown's finest got their due for their roles in stopping and the capture of the Boston Marathon Bombing suspects from some grateful residents of LaGrange, Ga.

Officers Miguel Colon and Richard Munger flew down to Atlanta and then toured some of the police departments in the area, including the Troup County Sheriff's Office, the LaGrange, Hogansville and West Point, according to a report in the LaGrange News.

They also attended a 5K race in LaGrange that raised money for bombing victims. Munger said he was glad to attend.

"It means a lot to us (to be invited to LaGrange). We’ve been invited to events around Massachusetts, but this is our first time outside the state," Munger told the LaGrange News.

Colon, who took part in the shootout with the bombing suspects said that more than 200 rounds were fired in the incident and that the Tsarnaev brothers threw five explosive devices, including one pipe bomb that did not explode, according to the report.

Colon said officers in Watertown were moved by the way residents came out in droves after the second suspect was captured.

“I’ve never seen anything like that in my life,” Colon told the LaGrange News.
