Watertown Memorial Day Parade Celebrates Watertown's First Responders

Residents came out to honor veterans as well as to thanks the town's police and firefighters.

The town's day to honor the military men and women who gave their lives for their country also provided a chance for Watertown residents to thank the police officers and firefigthers for the work in stopping the Boston Marathon Bombing suspects.

The Watertown Police led the Memorial Day Parade Monday, and received a warm welcome from townspeople - many of whom wore their "Watertown Strong" T-shirts.

Watertown's Firefighters also got a lot of love from the crowd in East Watertown, near where the shootout occured with the bombing suspects.

Joining them were dozens of veterans groups, youth sports, scouts, dancers, bands and many more.

Following the parade the town held its Memorial Day Ceremony at Saltonstall Park. Town Council President Mark Sideris thanked the town for being "Watertown Strong," especially the first responders.

Keynote speaker Lt. Matt Landry, a U.S. Navy Reservist who served in recent wars, noted that many of the town's police and firefighters served in the military before they came to serve and protect Watertown's citizens.
