WHS Sports: See How the Raiders Fared in State Tournament Play

Four Watertown teams made it to postseason play this spring, and a number of track teams members competed int he State Meet.

 

For the second year in a row, the Watertown boys lacrosse team won its opening game in the State Tournament, and the girls team made it for the first time ever. These were just two fo the teams in the postseason this spring.

The Raiders boys lacrosse team traveled to the South Coast to face Old Rochester, and routed the hosts 13-3 in the first round of Div. 3 East Section tournament on May 30.

Watertown's attack was led by Anthony Busconi and Joey Farrar, both with four goals, according to a report on SouthCoastToday.com. Other Raiders who scored were Danny loprete with two, and Joey Kelland, Chris Fidler Matt Donnell with one apiece.

The Raiders then faces No. 4 seed Canton, and fell 12-10 in Canton. Watertown ended the season with a record of 11-9.

Girls Lacrosse

Watertown's girls lacrosse team had never made the state tournament, . 

The Raiders, however, had not faced a team with a winning record all season before hosting Newburyport at Victory Field. Watertown fell 18-8 in the first round of the Div. 2 North Tournament.

Track

Several Raiders traveled to the Outdoor State Track and Field Championships at Westfield State University, and junior James Garbier placed fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.58, according to results on Milesplit.com.

Baseball

Watertown High School's baseball season came to a dramatic end when the Raiders fell 5-4 in extra innings to Swampscott in the preliminary round of the Div. 3 North Tournament.

The Raiders trailed 4-2 after three innings, but tied the score in the fourth, according to a report by the Salem News. Swampscott got a walk and two hits in the eighth to drive in the go ahead run, and Watertown could not counter in the home half of the inning. 

Watertown finishes the season with a record of 9-12.

Softball

The Raiders dropped their preliminary round game in the Div. 3 North Section tournament game at Whittier, 14-10. Watertown ends the season with a record of 4-15.
