Drivers Asked To Avoid Mule Road Due To Wake For Berkeley Officer

The afternoon visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - Berkeley police are asking motorists to avoid Mule Road in the Holiday City area due to expected expected traffic congestion from the wakes for Sgt. Alison J. Wray today and tonight.

"Heavy traffic and moderate delays are expected," according to a police department release. "Motorists are asked to avoid Mule Road on Nov. 9 between the hours of 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Please use an alternate route and avoid this area."

Sgt. Wray died on Nov. 3, after she suffered a stroke while on duty.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Barnabas R. C. Church, Bayville. Burial will follow at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood.

Sergeant Wray began her career with Berkeley Township in 2008 and later graduated from the Atlantic County Police Academy. Wray began in the patrol division and moved up the ranks quickly. She was promoted to sergeant in 2015.

"Sergeant Wray was known for her intelligence, compassion and dedication to her officers whom she considered family," Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

She is survived by her fiancée, Sgt. Henry Ganska of the Berkeley Township Police Department, their two children Harrison, age 2 and Henry, age 4. Sergeant Wray is also survived by her two stepchildren, Cole age 11 and Reagan, age 15.
