Fire Destroys Holiday City Home In Berkeley

A home on La Combe Terrace in the Holiday City section of Berkeley was destroyed by a fire on Thursday morning.

BERKELEY, NJ —A home on La Combe Terrace in the Holiday City section of Berkeley was destroyed by a fire on Thursday morning.

Berkeley Township police responded to the report of a structure fire at 10:15 a.m. On arrival, police found the home engulfed in flames.

People were not in the home when authorities arrived at the scene, police said.

Residents in neighboring houses were evacuated to the street and traffic was diverted from the area.

A witness in a neighboring home said he first saw fire in the garage before it spread throughout the home, the Asbury Park Press reported.

Two firefighters were taken to the hospital for minor injuries and released that afternoon, the Manitou Park Volunteer Fire Company said.

Fire departments from Berkeley Township and neighboring agencies responded and extinguished the blaze, including the Manitou Park Fire Department, the Pinewald Pioneer Fire Department, the Bayville Fire Department, the Beachwood Fire Department and the Toms River Fire Department.

Berkeley Township EMS and and Holiday City Berkeley First Aid also assisted at the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Berkeley Township Detective Bureau, the Berkeley Township Fire Official and the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office. A preliminary investigation suggests the fire was accidental, police said.
