Haunted Hayride Coming Up Friday And Saturday Nights In Waretown

The 20-minute, tractor-pulled hayride will meander through "haunted Waretown Lake," with a number of spooky scenarios

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Halloween is fast approaching. And what better way to mark the holiday than by taking a tractor-pulled hayride around "haunted" Waretown Lake?

The 19th annual event will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14.

The 20-minute ride isn't for the squeamish. There are 18 different "skits" ranging from the Gates of Hell, Texas Chain Saw Massacre, the Witches of Oz and a number of other creepy attractions, said township Recreation Director Jean Broadbent.

The event is coordinated by the township police and fire department. The scenarios are staffed by volunteer students from area high school, middle school and even a few elementary schools, she said.

Tickets go on sale at 6:30 p.m. at 182 Wells Mills Road. Admission for adults is $10, $8 for children 12 and under.

The event will be held even if it rains, unless there's lightning or thunder, Broadbent said.

Proceeds from the hayride go to the Ocean Township Foundation Day event and the Waretown Volunteer Fire Company.
