Jersey City Heat Advisory: What To Know, Cancelations
Temperatures will hit the mid-to-upper 90s and a heat advisory is in place until Friday.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — Extreme heat is sweeping the area once again and a heat advisory is in place throughout Jersey City and Hudson County.
Temperatures are slated to rise to the mid-to-upper 90s — heat index values will get up to 99 today and up to 103 expected Friday. A heat advisory is in effect starting at 11 a.m. on Thursday until 8 p.m. on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures. Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning. Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors.

Forecast
Thursday and Friday will be dry and hot, making the heat advisory important to heed. Once the weekend rolls around, scattered storms may cool the city down a few degrees. Here's a look at the forecast for the next few days:
Thursday Day: 88 degrees, Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 88F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday Night: 75 degrees, Some clouds. Low near 75F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.
Friday Day: 95 degrees, Intervals of clouds and sunshine. High near 95F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.
Friday Night: 76 degrees, Partly cloudy skies. Low near 75F. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph.
Saturday Day: 88 degrees, Partial cloudiness early, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Storms may contain strong gusty winds. High 88F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.
Saturday Night: 74 degrees, Variable clouds with scattered thunderstorms. Low 74F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.
Cooling Centers
The last major heatwave in Jersey City was at the end of June. The city opened several cooling centers in response and has kept them open as a safe place for residents to beat the heat.
With high temperatures and air quality diminished, the Joseph Connors and Maureen Collier Senior Centers are open from 8:30am - 4:30pm to escape the heat. The senior centers in Jersey City are being used as cooling centers and are open daily from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and the addresses are listed below:

Cancellations
The heat advisory has pushed outdoor events indoors. The Jersey City Free Public Library canceled outdoor programs for Thursday and Friday due to the heat advisory.
Pools and Splash Pads To Cool Down
Even in a heatwave the kids will want to play outside — luckily Jersey City has several public pools and splash pads open for free to residents, all you have to do is find one closest to you! Splash pads in the city are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily throughout the summer.

- Pershing Field Pool: 201 Central Ave
- Pershing Field Pool is located in Pershing Field Park. It is an indoor pool starting at 3.5 feet to 12 feet deep. It is a 6-lane pool, 25 meters (1 lap) distance. A small parking lot is available. Photo ID and proof of residency are required by all adult nonmembers
