On Thursday, March 28, the students of Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School were visited by popular children's author, Trina Hakes Noble. The author is best known for her books including The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash, Jimmy's Boa and the Bungee Jump Slam Dunk and The Legend of Cape May Diamond.

The author spoke to a group of sixth graders from Mrs. Ackerman, Mrs. Amato, Ms. Denman and Mr. Travis' classes, in the library about her writing process. She explained how events in her childhood on a farm, sparked many of the ideas for her series about Jimmy and his boa.

She even told the students that March Madness basketball was the trigger for Jimmy's Boa and the Bungee Jump Slam Dunk.

She described her book concepts as dominoes; one kernel of an idea starts the train and then the rest of the ideas flow. Ms. Hakes Noble also discussed with the children that several of her books are now translated into different languages, including French and Norweigian.

The visit was arranged by Mrs. Hartley and Mrs. Ackerman.
