Multiple Car Burglaries Reported In Summit Last Month: Police

Several Summit residents had valuable items stolen from their cars in March, according to the most recent police blotter.

SUMMIT, NJ — In the month of March, Summit saw multiple car burglaries, with residents losing thousands of dollars worth of valuables, according to the most recent police blotter.

Summit Police released their blotter report on Monday, revealing that several residents faced both attempted and successful car burglaries in March. In most cases, the cars were unlocked at the time of the burglaries.

The first burglary of the month was reported on March 5 when a black Lenovo laptop, valued at $800, was stolen from an unlocked car at a Morris Avenue business parking lot. According to police, the victim said the incident occurred overnight between March 4 and 5.

Then on March 11, several items were stolen from a resident's unlocked vehicle on Woodland Avenue. These items included a $10,000 Comapct M40 SeeSnake camera system, a $3,000 Rigid 44473 Skeetech Line Locator, two Milwaukee plumbing snakes valued at $500 each, one Husky tool bag valued at $100 and two Milwaukee power drills valued at $100 each. Again, the victim said the theft occurred overnight.

Also on March 11, items were stolen from a car located in a Summit Avenue parking lot. The driver's door lock on the vehicle was damaged to gain entry and several expensive power tools were taken.

An unlocked car at Brainerd Road residence was also burglarized on March 16. After this incident, a neighbor saw a man run up the driveway and enter an unlocked car on their neighbor's property. Police said the victim confirmed their car was rummaged through and that a black Igloo lunch cooler was taken, valued at $15.

Lastly, on March 19, an attempted burglary to two cars at a Hillcrest Avenue residence took place. According to police, the victim saw two unknown individuals walk toward and enter their parked cars. When approached, the two individuals fled the area. Police said at the time of the report nothing was taken.
