Oak Knoll School to Host S.T.E.A.M. Expo

The Expo will share learning fun for prospective students in prekindergarten through fifth grade.

From Oak Knoll School: Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child’s coeducational elementary school will be hosting an inaugural S.T.E.A.M. Expo next month to share 21st century learning fun for prospective students in prekindergarten through fifth grade.

The Expo, which is free and open to the public, will allow students to explore the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, art and math while meeting and learning from Oak Knoll School faculty. The event is an extension of the school’s annual S.T.E.A.M. event first held in 2015 for Oak Knoll’s current families.

The event takes place on Saturday, May 6, beginning at 10 a.m. at Oak Knoll’s beautiful 11-acre Summit Campus. Visitwww.oakknoll.org/steam to register.

Among some of the events:

  • Students in pre-K through second grade will combine tasty sweets and engineering skills to build bridges out of candy and other fun materials.
  • Students in grades 3-5 will achieve each individual S.T.E.A.M. subject in a fun-filled constellation activity where students will choose a constellation, graph them on paper, utilize a tablet to locate them in the sky, as well as use art and engineering skills to create a model of the constellation to bring home.
  • Students will also use Oak Knoll’s Dash robots and tablets to maneuver the bots through a maze and attempt to shoot a miniature basketball through a hoop. Like the constellation activity, this workshop also incorporates multiple S.T.E.A.M. disciplines.

Oak Knoll’s commitment to S.T.E.A.M. studies reached a new height this year through the opening of a brand new makerspace lab to encourage students in grades K-6 to design and create computer and engineering projects in a way that allows for more experimentation, exploration and self-direction.
