Scholarship Opportunity For Summit Young Women: See Who Qualifies

SUMMIT, NJ — The Beverly Jeanne Welsh Scholarship Fund is offering scholarships to young women in Summit who demonstrate financial need for college tuition.

Applications for the scholarship will be available through the guidance offices at Kent Place School Oak Knoll School and Summit High School beginning April 4. Those interested in applying must be permanent residents of Summit and currently attend or have graduated from one of these Summit high schools.

The scholarship is available to students who will either enter college this fall, are currently enrolled as undergraduates or who have completed an undergraduate degree and are seeking assistance for graduate or professional study.

Funding for the scholarship comes from a $1 million endowment from the estate of long-time Summit resident Evelyn Welsh. The Welsh Scholarship Fund, which also provides financial aid for Kent Place students, honors the memory of Welsh's daughter Beverly Jeanne, a 1952 graduate of Kent Place School.

Scholarship decisions are made by a selection committee that includes members of Kent Place, Oak Knoll and Summit High School.

Completed applications must be emailed to the contact person at the applicant’s high school by April 29. Decisions will be announced by the end of June.
