Approved Budget Results in $34 Tax Increase

Wyckoff's Township Committee approved a 2013 municipal budget that will result in a $34 tax increase for the average assessed home.

The Wyckoff Township Committee adopted the presented 2013 municipal budget on Tuesday evening. The budget will result in an increase of $34.92 for over the 2012 property tax for the average home assessed at $812,200 in Wyckoff.

“I am happy we have the budget adopted,” said Wyckoff Mayor Rudy Boonstra. “I think Chairman Rooney, Vice Chairman Doug Christe, Administrator Bob Shannon and CFO Diana McLeod did a great job on putting this together.”

Despite uncontrollable expenses, such as State mandated pension costs, employee health care, contractual salary increases and other State mandates, the 2013 budget results in a tax levy increase of 1.54 percent.

“The thirty-some dollar increase on the average home is well within tolerance. It allows us to maintain our surplus and provided the services we need to provide,” added Boonstra.

The municipal taxes represent only 14 percent of a Wyckoff taxpayer’s obligation. The Bergen County government, the K-8 school district, and the Ramapo-Indian Hills school district develop and adopt their own budgets to be funded by taxes.
