Bergen Man Defrauded Delivery Services Out Of $1.7M: Authorities

Enrico DiCaprio of Edgewater allegedly submitted thousands of false insurance claims for lost, damaged, and stolen items, authorities said.

A Bergen County man is accused of submitting thousands of false insurance claims to courier delivery service companies and defrauding them out of $1.7 million, authorities announced.

Enrico DiCaprio, 57, of Edgewater was charged with mail fraud after he allegedly submitted thousands of false insurance claims for lost, damaged, and stolen items the companies shipped, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced. The items were not lost, damaged, or stolen, he said.

DiCaprio allegedly ran the scheme from December 2016 to July 2019, Carpenito said.

The courier services issued reimbursement checks to DiCaprio through the mail, totaling about $1.7 million, Carpenito said.

Mail fraud carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
