Woodside Principal-to-be Withdraws Acceptance

A district, already in search of a new director of curriculum and a new superintendent, now has the task of hiring a new principal on short notice.

The Franklin Lakes school district was dealt another blow on Friday morning. Superintendent Frank Romano issued an email to the Woodside Avenue School community announcing that Christine Laquidara had withdrawn her acceptance of the Woodside Avenue Principal position.

“I am deeply saddened by this, but I do understand and respect her decision,” said Romano. “Please rest assured that I remain committed to finding the right leader for Woodside Avenue School.”

This news hits the district just days after the Franklin Lakes Board of Education approved Romano’s resignation, which will be effective on June 30, 2014. On that same evening, the board voted against having Cheryl Best return as director of curriculum for the district.

On top of the search for a new superintendent and director of curriculum, the Franklin Lakes district is now forced to find a replacement for Laquidara on short notice.

Laquidara’s hiring was approved by the board on March 27 and was clearly happy that she was chosen for the position.

"I am so excited to be here," Laquidara said at that meeting. "I've had great experiences each time I've come up here and I can't wait to be here to stay."

Since making those statements the Franklin Lakes K-8 Board of Education has proven that they are not in agreement on many issues. No specific reason for Laquidara’s withdrawal was announced.
