After Rainy Week, Tropical Storm Debby Sidesteps Manhattan

CENTRAL PARK, NY – Tropical Storm Debby will tack inland on Friday, largely skipping New York City, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Although Manhattan will likely see thunderstorms on Friday, Debby’s path currently runs inland through Pennsylvania, Upstate New York, Vermont, and Maine.

A wind advisory is in effect from 12 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Friday, with gusts of up to 50 mph expected, according to the NWS.

Nearby, 17 New Jersey counties are under a tornado watch until 2 p.m. on Friday.

A Stormy Week

Storms drenched Central Park and Midtown with more than 2 inches of precipitation earlier this week, and the rain has continued to fall.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as Manhattan was “abnormally dry” as of last week, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

A new map, released on Thursday, shows that conditions have returned to normal.
