Duo Robbed Of Necklaces And Hat In Central Park: Police

Two victims were caught off guard when they were approached from behind in an apparent snatch-and-grab near Columbus Circle, police said.

CENTRAL PARK, NY – Two individuals robbed two parkgoers in Central Park on Tuesday night, making off with chain necklaces from one victim and a hat from the other, police said.

At about 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday, the two victims were seated on a park bench on West Drive near 62nd Street, when they were approached by two unknown assailants, according to police.

Chains were removed from one victim’s neck, and a hat was stolen from the other. Both assailants fled eastbound toward Columbus Circle, police said.

No weapons were involved.

“They just grabbed the chains and ran,” a police spokesperson told Patch.

It’s not the first chain snatching in the area this summer, although at this time the incidents have not been connected, police confirmed.

No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
