Farmingdale Man Arrested After Bar Fight

James Fontana allegedly struck another bar patron with a beer bottle.

A Farmingdale man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly assaulting another patron at Jugs & Strokers bar in Merrick.

According to police, James Fontana, 42, was running away from the Sunrise Highway bar when police arrived on the scene.

Further investigation determined that Fontana was involved in a verbal dispute with a 23-year-old male victim outside the bar. The defendant then reportedly struck the victim in the face with a beer bottle causing a deep laceration to the nose. The victim was transported to an area hospital by private automobile where several stitches were required to close the wound.

Fontana was arrested near the scene and charged with Assault 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
