Farmingdale Trivia Answer: Opera House

asked where the picture in the gallery to the right was taken in 1912.

According to the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society, the photo was of the Heiselmann Opera House on Main Street just south of Richard Street, which was built in 1909 and served  as a community auditorium until 1915. It then became a woodworking shop, but that was destroyed by fire in 1923.

The "opera house" was the scene of locally produced shows, touring  vaudeville programs, and stock performances, but apparently never an opera. Today it is home to
