LIRR Train Strikes Tractor-Trailer
Service was suspended after the crash Wednesday evening.
UPDATE 7:30 p.m.: The LIRR says service has been restored on the Ronkonkoma branch and both tracks through Farmingdale are in operation. Commuters should anticipate residual delays averaging 15 minutes as trains operate at reduced speeds through the area.
FARMINGDALE, NY – A Long Island Rail Road train struck a tractor-trailer on the tracks in Farmingdale during the evening rush.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was able to escape before the Ronkonkoma-bound 4:51 p.m. train from Penn Station struck the tractor-trailer at the Merritt Road crossing, authorities said.

As of 7:15 p.m., service is suspended on the LIRR's Ronkonkoma branch.
"We are in the process of restoring one of two tracks through Farmingdale and trains will operate at reduced speeds through the area," the railroad said in a tweet. "Customers are advised to use alternate branches such as the Huntington/Port Jefferson, Babylon and Montauk branches."
