PGA Championship Kicks Off In Farmingdale's Bethpage Black Course

The PGA Championship comes to Farmingdale's Bethpage Black Course for the first time in its history.

FARMINGDALE, NY--For the first time in its storied 103-year history, the PGA Championship is coming to the Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale.

Hosted by the Professional Golfers Association, the PGA Championship is one of four major tournaments along with the Masters Tournament, the U.S. Open and The Open Championship. The tournament will run from May 16-19 and offers a money purse of $11m. The winner will earn $1.98m.

There will be 156 golfers competing at the Bethpage Black. Among them is golfing legend and 15-time major winner Tiger Woods. Woods is pegged as the betting favorite to win the tournament, with Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm in the mix as well. Koepka won last year's PGA Championship, with Woods as the runner-up.

There is a weeklong travel advisory in place while the golf tour is in town, however. Heavy amounts of traffic associated with the event are expected on the roads near Bethpage State Park.
