City College Student Arrested, Banned For Violent Racist Threats: NYPD

A student threatened to "shoot up" the Harlem campus and called a fellow student the N-word before being arrested last week, police say.

HARLEM, NY — A student at CUNY's City College has been arrested and banned from its Harlem campus after making violent, racist threats toward another student and threatening to "shoot up" the college, according to police and the school.

Din Bajrektarevic, 21, of Old Bridge, N.J., was arrested Friday on charges of making a terroristic threat, two days after the 22-year-old fellow student called police to report the messages.

Texts from Bajrektarevic read: "When i shoot up the school, know who is to blame," "the city will go to war you dumb n---er monkeys," and "your brains will be left on the f---ing pavement," an NYPD spokesperson said.

In a tweet on Monday City College said that police had "acted on a threat to the campus," adding that the suspect had been "charged, released, suspended and barred from campus."

Classes were scheduled to continue as normal, but additional public safety officers were present on campus as a precaution, CUNY said.

In an additional email to students, CUNY's head of public safety circulated a photo of Bajrektarevic and asked anyone who saw him on campus to alert the department, the New York Post reported.
