Hamilton Heights Killing: New Video Shows 2 Suspects, Police Say

Video shows two suspects moments before 39-year-old Jose Morales was gunned down on Broadway earlier this week, police say.

HARLEM, NY — Police on Thursday released video showing two people wanted in connection with Sunday's fatal shooting in Hamilton Heights, as well as new details about the homicide.

Police say the two unidentified men got into a fight with 39-year-old Jose Morales just before 3 a.m. Sunday, near the corner of West 140th Street and Broadway.

As the dispute escalated, one man took out a gun and the other shot Morales once in the chest, police said. The assailants fled on foot, while Morales reportedly climbed into his car and drove for about a block before crashing, according to the New York Post.

He was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital, police said.

Police described the two suspects as about 35 to 40 years old. The man who fired the fatal shot was wearing a black jacket, black-and-white sweatpants and black sneakers, seen on video holding a black firearm. The second man wore a black hooded jacket, black pants and black poots, and was seen taking a firearm out of his right pocket.

Authorities shared surveillance video showing both men at the site of the shooting, and asked anyone with information to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). People can also submit tips online or on Twitter, @NYPDTips.
