The 39-year-old man tried to flee in a car before crashing on Broadway, according to police and news reports.

HARLEM, NY — A man was shot and killed early Sunday on a Hamilton Heights street, according to police.

The 39-year-old man was shot in the chest around 3 a.m. Sunday near the corner of West 143rd Street and Broadway, police say.

According to the New York Post, the man had been shot outside a nearby club, then climbed into his car and drove for about a block before crashing.

He was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man's identity was withheld pending proper family notification, police said.

Police have made no arrests but said an investigation is ongoing.
