HUNTINGTON, NY — People having fun during Huntington's Summer in the Streets event were educated on the importance of Narcan and how it can help save the life of someone who is overdosing, according to a news release.

The Suffolk County Police Department provided 104 doses of Narcan to attendees of the street festival on Aug. 7, while The Purple Rock Project helped people memorialize their loved ones lost to overdose by writing their names on a rock.

The Narcan training was conducted by SCPD Emergency Medical Service Officer Jason Byron, who educated the public on how accidental opioid exposures can affect individuals of any age. He also said that simply having Narcan in the home does not indicate substance abuse, but rather preparedness and care for loved ones.
