Air Quality Advisory Issued For LI Monday, Tuesday: NYSDEC
The ozone level reported on Monday could be unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to the NYSDEC.
LONG ISLAND, NY — A high level of ozone on the air quality index was reported on Long Island for Monday, as the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued an air quality health advisory.
The 101 air quality reading, in the orange zone, is "unhealthy for sensitive groups," according to the DEC. Tuesday's forecast reading is 54 on the index, in the yellow zone and considered "moderate."
While high ozone levels are normally restricted to the warm season, fine particles can be high at any time of year, according to the DEC.

"These pollutants arise from sources such as cars, trucks and power plants, with fine particle levels also enhanced by forest fires and residential burning," the agency wrote. "To help reduce pollution levels, refrain from unnecessary driving and use public transportation if available."
